EMISSION TESTING VANS

Air Hygiene International, Inc's emission testing vans are designed for various sources, which require combustion emission testing with real-time gas analysis. Our emission testing vans are typically operated by one or two man testing crews with an experienced project manager on-site at all times and involved in the testing operation.

The emission testing vans are designed to perform numerous engine tests day after day across the United States. The compact nature of the van along with a self-sufficient system which has the ability to maintain continuous analyzer operation by using on-board power generators allow flexibility and mobility. The major components of the system include:

  • Sample Probe: typically stainless steel tube of various lengths or diameters; used to transport gas from various locations within the stack flow to the probe housing.

  • Probe Housing: preheated to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to minimize gas condensation; contains pressure valve to automatically switch from stack analysis to bias run; contains connections for sample nozzle, heated sample line, and bias line.

  • Sample Line: available in 50 or 100 foot lengths which can be linked together to desired length; preheated to 250 degrees Fahrenheit to minimize gas condensation; main sample line and bias line run in parallel with both wrapped in heating coil; attaches probe housing to gas conditioner.

  • Gas Conditioner: thermal electric chiller that runs at 4 degrees Celsius; moisture from the stack gas is condensed and pulled out by a peristaltic pump; stack gas has no significant contact with moisture.

  • Manifold: controls the flow of gas for analyzer calibration, stack gas analysis, and biasing; monitors the total flow rate of the system and the flow rate going to each analyzer.

  • Gas Analyzers: typically include oxygen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, non-methane/ethane hydrocarbons, and total hydrocarbon (THC) analysis units.

  • Logic Beach Hyperlogger Data Recorder: records electronic signal from each analyzer and records in database type format; uplinks directly to laptop computer and allows real-time tracking, real-time trending/graphing, and immediate downloads and reporting.

A typical system setup extracts stack gas through the sample nozzle, into the probe housing, through the heated sample line, into the gas conditioner, through the analyzers, and out the vents (See Unit #301 Schematic). A portion of the stack gas can be redirected before the gas conditioner for analyzers that require a wet gas sample (i.e. THC). A few adjustments to the manifold board allow for a quick change from stack gas sampling to running a calibration or a bias. For specific HAP analysis (i.e. formaldehyde) conditioned gas samples can be metered through selected collection media and analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography, or other selected method.

With our emission testing vans, Air Hygiene can offer clients several "extras" which include:

  • SPIDER Networking: running a network cable directly from the mobile lab to the control room to let the client see analyzer data in real-time without having to wait for results to be called in on a radios or carried in from the lab. Networking makes it easier to map engines and to make load and fuel changes.

  • Instant Reports: with our preprogrammed hyperlogger system, on-board printer/copier, and system integrated laptop computers; Air Hygiene can have reports ready for the client in the field within minutes after the testing is completed.

  • Our own power supply

  • Site testing upon request within 5 working days
